Beyond The Blue
This fictional short film followed 25-year-old swimming champion Jamal on his journey to overcome his fear of the water, after traveling across the Mediterranean Sea as a Syrian refugee. Together with his mother they live in small asylum housing in midlands UK. The story comments on the difficulties refugees face once they have made the journey and settled down in their new home, presenting the challenges this can have on their identity and ability to form relationships with others.
Vision
This was a mainly location-based shoot, apart from the kitchen which was entirely sourced from antique stores and charity shops within a week. From the tables, chairs and dressing to the fridge and sink.
The intention was to make the space look completely makeshift, as if someone had taken all different parts of different cars and put it all together to make one.
